The valley of cypresses

Passing through Val Cassia from San Quirico towards Radicofani it is easy to be enchanted by the sight of the cypress trees. They truly are the representation of this undulating landscape. However, it is as one approaches Covili that the presence of cypresses becomes a double line feature, a line giving border to the vast fields of cultivation. Postcard like in nature they give a sense of immortality to the scene. No coincidence is it that this double line feature is often to be found near cemetries, the roots of the cypresses vertical in nature and as their very upper presence they do not look to disturb what is around but to give an aura of calm and gratitude. It seems at times as if they stand vigil to our very existence, a protection and a lifegiving force to which we hold dear.

Vivo d'Orcia

There are no doubts that San Francesco spent much time here in Val d'Orcia. We wonder if the miraculous qualities of the water here is somehow connected to this fact!
